Stephanie Fortunato: Hello, and welcome to The Three Bells, one of a series of podcasts brought to you by AEA Consulting for the Global Cultural Districts Network. I'm Stephanie Fortunato, special projects director for GCDN.

I've always been very interested in place-based communities, the art people make, the stories that get passed down or silenced, and how people make meaning together.

Today's reflection is inspired by recent visits to two art museums on opposite coasts: The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, gave me a way to think about museums as institutions rooted not only in collections, but in purpose, place, and relationship with artists.
